The North Branch Area Library will be hosting a 2 hour workshop for ages 14 and up on how to make a penny rug. During the Civil War era homemakers used scraps of wool or felted wool from old clothing, blankets and hats to make designs for mats or rugs. Coins were used as templates and circular pieces were stitched in blanket stitch fashion.
the workshop will start at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 25 at the North Branch Area Library. Pre-registration is required. To register call 651-674-8443 and ask for the North Branch Area Library. Space is limited.
The workshop is funded with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
