Feel good music from the Heart of Africa

East Central Regional Library encourages kids and families to join Siama and his wife, Dallas, for songs and stories that bring Siama’s Congolese culture to life during performances at Chisago Lakes, Aitkin, Pine City, Wyoming, Cambridge and North Branch libraries.

The program, Siama’s Congo Roots: Feel-good music from the Heart of Africa, engages both kids and adults to sing along to catchy songs in Kikongo, Lingala and Swahili and play fun hand percussion instruments. Along with learning about Siama’s rural childhood in DR Congo, hear Siama play guitar and mbira with Dallas singing harmony.

Next up for Belinda Jensen: Aitkin Public Library

Belinda Jensen, chief meteorologist for KARE 11 News, is coming to the Aitkin Public Library at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 23.

Belinda enjoys sharing her passion and enthusiasm for weather-related topics through presentations that show school age students the science behind weather. She also helps kids understand the mystery of weather with her series of children’s books featuring the character “Bel the Weather Girl,” who is already fascinated with the weather as an 8-year-old.

This program is recommended for ages 7 and up along with their families. It is sponsored by East Central Regional Library and funded with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

Belinda also will make an appearance at the Cambridge Public Library at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 12.

American Revolution program brings history to life

East Central Regional Library is pleased to present Birth of Our Nation: The American Revolution, a special presentation by Arn Kind at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 19 at the Milaca Community Library.

Kind, a teacher of 40 years, will appear in period attire, portraying the people who participated in the events that gave birth to our nation. His use of drama, role-playing, living history experiences and displays give audiences an understanding of this turbulent time and make history come alive.
