Learn about the Great Mataafa Storm of 1905 on Lake Superior, marine weather forecasting and lifesaving equipment during Tall Water and Steel Ships, a special ECRL Reads presentation at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13 at the Rush City Public Library. Presenting will be Thom Holden, former director of the Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center.
Everyone in the counties of Aitkin, Chisago, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs and Pine are encouraged to read this year’s ECRL Reads title, The Fate of Mercy Alban, a spine-tingling, modern-day haunted house story set on Lake Superior by award-winning Minnesota novelist Wendy Webb.
Yesterday citizens of the City of Cambridge voted on a local option sales tax referendum.
The question ballot read: “Do you approve a one-half (.5) percent local sales tax to fund the construction of a new Cambridge Public Library and East Central Regional Library Headquarters, the City’s street improvement program, and outdoor park development through calendar year 2043? By voting “yes” on this question you are voting to increase the sales tax in Cambridge.”
The official results are in. With 2 out of 2 precincts reporting, the referendum has passed.
- YES: 2115 (61.63%)
- NO: 1317 (38.37%)
You can find other election results on the Minnesota Secretary of State’s website.
Thank you to the volunteers for your hard work on this campaign!

Employees of all positions gathered for the annual All Staff Day at the Braham Event Center to become better equipped in providing library service to patrons and communities across East Central Minnesota.
