This week: Storyteller Bob Gasch and Author Nicole Helget!

East Central Regional Library welcomes Minnesota storyteller Bob Gasch on Thursday, June 27 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Milaca Community Library.

Since 1971, Gasch has been visiting schools, libraries and organizations from Alaska to Louisiana and Colorado to Northern Ireland. His presentations have been helping people become more aware of and interested in history, reading, writing and storytelling.

Minnesota author Nicole Helget will focus on her novel, The End of the Wild, during a special visit at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 27 at the North Branch Public Library.

In this coming of age story, 11-year-old Fern doesn’t have an easy life, with a stepfather out of work and responsibilities like keeping her younger brothers out of trouble. She often takes refuge in the nearby woods, until a fracking company comes to town. With no one on her side, how can she save the forest that has protected her for so long?
In addition, a discussion of The End of the Wild will be the subject of Teen Book Club on Monday, June 24, from 5-6:30 p.m. Check with staff at the front desk for copies of the book. Teen Book Club is recommended for ages 12 and up. Pizza and snacks are provided.
Helget, an award-winner for her work, has also authored The Summer of Ordinary Ways, The Turtle Catcher, Horse Camp, Stillwater and Wonder at the Edge of the World. With her family, she lives in southern Minnesota where she works as a teacher, editor, and manuscript and story consultant.
All ages are welcome to both special visits, and no registration is necessary.
These programs are funded with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
